Here you’ll find a selection of stories written to accompany our books. Some of them have appeared in print, under contracts that allow us to republish them after a certain amount of time. Black Friday

A Cassie Palmer holiday short.

Lover’s Knot

One of the most powerful vampires in existence has gone missing, which is fine with Dorina Basarab. As a dhampir, a half human, half vampire hybrid, her job is killing vampires, not saving them. But then the man sent to find the missing vampire also goes missing, and he happens to be her lover, Louis-Cesare. She therefore finds herself on a rescue mission with an old enemy, while forgotten memories from deep in her past play out in her head. What are they trying to tell her? And can she figure it out before it’s too late?

For the ebook of “Lover’s Knot”, go here for the Smashwords version, or here for Amazon.

This novella is part of the Dorina Basarab series of books published by Penguin Random House. It is set after the first three novels of the series, Midnight’s DaughterDeath’s Mistress and Fury’s Kiss, and provides some spoilers for those books.

Shitty Beer

This is an odd little thing, somewhere between a short story and a deleted scene. It started when a reader wrote my page on Facebook to ask “I’m rereading Claimed by Shadow again and I’m curious, how exactly did Pritkin describe Cassie to Mac? I’ve always wondered.” So here’s the answer, plus a little bit more.

“Shitty Beer” contains some fairly significant spoilers for Claimed by Shadow,
the second Cassie Palmer novel.

Also, because this short wouldn’t make a lot of sense to non-readers, it isn’t being put on Smashwords/Amazon etc. However, a reader generously donated her time to make some e-versions possible (thanks, Nicholi!)

Updating Pritkin

Sartorially elegant our war mage is not. Is there anyone who can help? Anyone . .

“Updating Pritkin” was originally done as the conclusion to a contest on the blog (you can find the contest on the Funny tab of the News page, but it’s not needed for enjoying the story). It is relatively free of spoilers, but because of one important issue, should be read after Hunt the Moon.

Because of the images used in the story, this cannot be put on Smashwords. However, a reader generously donated her time to make some e-versions possible (thanks, Nicholi!)
