1/2 stars! In dhampir Dorina Basarab, Chance has created a sassy, tough
heronie who never says die. Following these first-person adventures is
going to be an adrenaline high!--Romantic Times.
More than an
action adventure with a bit of romance thrown in, Chance manages to build her
story on a foundation of family, friendship, loyalty, and responsibility. It's
the background and inter-relationships of the characters, often told through
flashbacks and shared memories, that add a richness and depth to the story.
Knowing some of the backstory of the character's lives gives the reader a
greater understanding of the motives driving the plot. Karen Chance
doesn't disappoint, once again we have an action packed adventure with a strong
female character that, while tough as nails, and a dhampir -- is also very
human.—SFReview
Burgeoning
with every conceivable magical being from mage to Vampire, troll to Fey -
Midnight's Daughter is a veritable feast for lovers of the paranormal. Glorious
fight scenes, eerily still moments of fractured memories, steamy romps that set
the heart pounding; it is little wonder that Chance has caught the attention of
so many fans of this genre. She delivers in every way - utterly staggering.--thetruthaboutbooks.com
One thing is very clear throughout the book – Karen Chance knows how to
write. Not just the action scenes, or having the butt-kicking heroine throw out
pithy one-liners but the set-up is clever, the involvement of the various
factions in the simmering war is well thought-out as are the repercussions to
the various actions characters take in the book. I am looking forward to the rest of the series and will no doubt pick up the
previous series from the back-catalogue.--monstersandcritics.com
This
is a rip-roaring, action-packed, no-holds-barred story, which hits the
ground running and doesn't let up until the very end. [But] there's a
sly sense of humor threaded throughout the book, courtesy both of
Dory's own unique outlook and of circumstances, and it keeps things
from getting overly serious. I can tell I'm going to thoroughly enjoy
this series. Midnight's Daughter is a strong start, and you don't need
to have read the Cassie Palmer books to appreciate what's going on
here. There may be a number of leather-wearing, buttkicking heroines on
the market today, but there's plenty of room for Dory Basarab.--greenmanreview.com.
